HAPPY NEW YEAR - New Years' Greetings from BLIC

Dear friends

2011 was a good BLIC year. Thank you for your BLIC support!

We held seven regular events plus a Belgium National Day dinner, a memorable football game and one golf tournament.
And our recent and well attended Christmas Dinner, enhanced by fine food and generously donated door prizes by some of our members, turned out to be a very joyous evening.

I also wish to thank Ambassador Tanghe and the Embassy staff for their support over this past year.

My best wishes to all of you for a happy New Year 2012! Looking forward to seeing you again in big numbers at the upcoming BLIC events in 2012.

Best regards

INDONESIA / BELGIUM - Belgian Chocolate conquers Indonesia - Indonesia's chocoholics lead an Asian quality wave

reuters.com - Dec 19 (Reuters) - Arriving in Indonesia just a little over a decade ago, Belgium chocolatier Thierry Detournay was dismayed at the lack of quality chocolate on offer in the world's third-largest cocoa producer.

But now, less than seven years after launch, his luxury Chocolate Monggo bars can be found in many of the gigantic and glitzy malls of downtown Jakarta.

As Southeast Asia's largest economy goes from strength to strength -- highlighted by a return to investment-grade status by Fitch Ratings this month -- Indonesia's Willy Wonka is one of many tapping into a growing Asian market for luxury chocolate.  (source)

DRIVE BOOKS, NOT CARS  is a completely volunteer-driven project designed to raise awareness for Sahabat Anak and Taman Bacaan Pelangi

A few friends and I started it last September. This is the second drive. We are not looking for cash, but instead we would love your support. I know you know tons of people out there. Just tell them about what we are doing. Spread the word.
We are collecting all the English-language novels and Indonesian-language children's books we can get our hands on. On Jan 29th 2012 after we collect all the books from the 60 drop boxes around town we selling them back by opening in Jakarta  the biggest secondhand bookstore outside Ex during Car Free Day.

We collected over 5,000 books last time around and raised more than $3,000 to fund scholarships here in Jakarta and open libraries in Flores. Every rupiah goes to the kids. W know of no other organization or initiative here in Jakarta that can say that. We don't have a budget. We pay our own way during meetings. Every cent goes to the kids.
