“How to keep a fast growing economy green?”
H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, Ambassador of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Belgium,
the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Union

Asia is rising rapidly amidst crisis in Europe and the United States. The global economic's centre gravity is once again shifting to Asia. The Asian Development Bank talks about the return of the Asian Century in the middle of this century. Standard Chartered published a special report on 15 November 2010 entitled "The Super-Cycle Report". which contends that "the balance of the world economy will reverse, with the combined share of the US, the EU and Japan shrinking from 72% in 2000 to 29% in 2030". Indonesia will be the region's star performer; the 28th largest economy in 2000, it may be the world's 10th largest in 2020 and fifth-largest in 2030 with $9.3 trillion dollar GDP". With current growth of 6.5 percent, such prediction could indeed be the reality of the year 2030 for Indonesia. One of the critical question would be whether such growth is a growth of brown economy or green economy. Key is whether such growth is at the expense of the environment or is a growth that is sustainable and does improve human well being and social equity. These are valid questions to pose on how Indonesia, the archipelago of 17508 islands, home to 240 million people and the world's richest biodiversity, humming on 6.5 percent growth can keep its economy green.

The lecture will be introduced by Prof. Dr. Jo Swinnen, Director of Licos Centre for Institutions & Economic Performances, and will be concluded by an open question and answer session.

ENQUETE - Medewerking gevraagd - Migratie en Toerisme

Beste landgenoot,

Met deze brief nodig ik u graag uit om deel te nemen aan een internationaal onderzoek betreffende migratie en toerisme, ondersteund door het Vlaams Fonds voorWetenschappelijk Onderzoek (1.2.210.09.N.00) en het Directoraat-generaal Onderzoek vande Europese Commissie (PIRG03-GA-2008-230892).

Deelnemen kan op verschillende manieren:

- U bent op de hoogte van Belgische “aanwezigheid” in Indonesië (in de vorm van straatnamen, winkels, producten, kunstwerken, enz.)? Ik verneem graag deze info.
- U kent Indonesiërs die ooit in België gewoond of gewerkt hebben en bereid zijndaarover te praten met mij (in het Indonesisch of Engels)? Laat het mij weten.
- U kan zelf wat tijd vrijmaken voor een losse babbel omtrent migratie en toerisme?

Ik kom naar Jakarta (tussen 3 en 17 juli), Bali (tussen 18 en 24 juli) en Yogyakarta(tussen 25 en 31 juli). Gesprekken kunnen zowel op individuele basis als in kleinegroep plaatsvinden. Ik heb een drukke maar flexibele agenda en spreek graag af.

Ik kan alvast garanderen dat alle verstrekte informatie volledig anoniem zal behandeldworden. De resultaten zullen gebruikt worden om tot een beter inzicht te komen vantransnationale mobiliteit.

EVENTS - 9th Basic Molecular Biology Course (BMBC) on Stem Cell Treatment - Malang Indonesia - 14-15 May, 2011

Selama dua hari berturut-turut, Sabtu dan Minggu (14-15/5) Fakultas Kedokteran (FK) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) bekerjasama dengan Asosiasi Sel Punca Indonesia, Perhimpunan Patobiologi Indonesia (PPI) cabang Malang, dan IDI cabang Malang menyelenggarakan Seminar dan Workshop Internasional: 9^th Basic Molecular Biology Course (BMBC) on Stem Cell Treatment dan Dinner Symposium Cardiology. Acara yang mengambil tema Recent Advance and Challenge of Stem Cell Treatment ini bertempat di Lantai 6 FK-UB dan dihadiri oleh 179 orang dari para dokter, klinisi, mahasiswa S2, S3, maupun peneliti dari seluruh Indonesia. EVENTS - REPORT - International Symposium on Stem Cell Treatment - Malang Indonesia - 13-15 May, 2011

Dr John Sardjono PRIHADI, cardiologist-cardiac rehabilitation, in cooperation with university Brawijaya, Malang. Guest Lecturer/Docent since 2004 at the Faculty of Medicine University Brawijaya, Malang.

It's an International Symposium about Stem Cell Treatment.

Functions of Dr Prihadi:
- Function Guest Lecture for student and Gala Dinner: Moderator
- Function Stam Cells BMBC IX Symposium/Course: Committee/Faculty.
The treatment is still in experimental phase. It need extra research.

REPORT - Jeroen Christens :  Back from a long weekend in Malang. This was not the usual holiday trip. I got the chance to help a little bit with the international medical conference, at the university of Malang.

Purpose of the Belgian-Indonesian cooperation is the development of new medical projects. (full report hereunder)
